Gibbons Institute Presents, “Federal Circuit Year in Review,” Event Featuring Honorable Faith Hochberg
The Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology, and the Student Intellectual Property Law Association present, “Federal Circuit Year in Review,” an event featuring the Honorable Faith Hochberg, District Judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. This program will discuss key IP issues decided by the Federal Circuit over the past 18-months and the practical implications of these issues moving forward. Along with Judge Hochberg, panelists include: Ralph A. Dengler, Director, Intellectual Property Department, Gibbons P.C.; Erik Lillquist, Vice Dean & Professor of Law, Seton Hall Law School; and David Opderbeck, Professor of Law and Director, Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology, Seton Hall Law School.
For years, the average person who heard the phrase “knock offs” would immediately think of counterfeit versions of brand name luxury goods. While counterfeiters continue to target those types of goods, they are by no means the most nefarious or sophisticated category of counterfeiters. Counterfeiters have effectively targeted almost every type of consumer product imaginable, including the drugs and medical diagnostic devices that consumers rely on for their health and safety.
Pharmaceutical counterfeiting poses a threat to consumers and harms both the reputation and financial condition of pharmaceutical companies. On Tuesday, June 18, the Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology will be hosting “Managing Counterfeiting Issues in the Pharmaceutical Industry,” from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Seton Hall Law School in Newark, NJ.
Gibbons Directors Robert Rudnick & Thomas Bean to Serve on Panel for Upcoming Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology Event
Robert E. Rudnick and Thomas J. Bean, Directors in the Gibbons Intellectual Property Department, will serve as panelists at the upcoming Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology event, “USTPO Patent Post-Issuance Proceedings Under the American Invents Act — a New Frontier” on April 23. Mr. Rudnick and Mr. Bean, along with Kenneth Corsello of IBM and other industry and academic leaders, will address post-grant proceedings under the American Invents Act (AIA), from both the patent owner’s and challenger’s perspectives, as well as discovery and other new rules of practice before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). CLE credits for New Jersey and New York will be offered.
Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology Files Amicus Brief in “Pay-for-Delay” Case Before Supreme Court
We previously reported on the battle over so-called “pay-for-delay” settlements, which puts the pharmaceutical industry versus the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) before the Supreme Court, to decide the legality of reverse payments in Hatch-Waxman cases. The case is FTC v. Actavis, Inc., et al. Last week, the Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology, among 16 other amici, filed briefs in support of respondents and the lawfulness of these payments. On April 26, the Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology, Seton Hall University School of Law, and the New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association will present, “Patent Litigation at the ITC: Views from the Government, In-House Attorneys and Outside Counsel.” Throughout the afternoon, two panels comprised of various government officials and in-house counsel will come together to share their views on patent litigation and how it is approached in their specific practice areas.

“Cybersecurity Law and Policy: Changing Paradigms and New Challenges” is an all-day conference featuring seven break-out sessions and over 35 speakers and panelists. This seminar is part of the Cybersecurity Law Project, a collaboration between the Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology at Seton Hall Law School, Rutgers School of Law-Newark, and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, which promotes specialized legal training in the emerging area of cybersecurity law to law students and practicing attorneys.

Todd Dickinson, Former Director of the USPTO and the current Executive Director of the AIPLA. This event will be held at Gibbons Newark office (One Gateway Center, 21st floor) on Wednesday, February 23, at 4:00 pm.
